Biography
Kelly designed and built the first multi-protocol wide area network within the Washington State Government in the late 1980's and early 1990's. He worked to insure that an SNMP managable platform was implemented, making it the first executive agency in state government to do so.

CompuServe Network Services
In 1995 Kelly left state government to join CompuServe Network Services (CNS) as a Network Technical Specialist (NTS). In this role-later retitled Network System Engineer (NSE)-Kelly worked with some of the most exciting technologies and products in the sevidee provider arena. He served as a NetWare specialist to the Western District and provided extensive taining within CompuServe Network Services for a variety of associates.

While working at CNS Kelly also taught for the University of Washington-Extension at their Bellevue, Washington Campus. Kelly's primary class was "Network Protocols and Standards" and he discontinued teaching to take a job as a full-time trainer.

Chesapeake Computer Consultants, Inc.
Kelly left CompuServe Network Services in early 1998 to join the premier Cisco Training Partner, Chesapeake Computer Consultants, Inc.(Chesapeake) of Annapolis, MD. The primary role Kelly played at Chesapeake was instructor. In this role Kelly became one of the first voice over Frame-Relay, ATM, IP instructors certified by Cisco Systems, Inc. He taught the initial rollout of the "Cisco Voice over Frame Relay, ATM, and IP" course at Cisco Systems, Inc. in September, 1998. Flying out on Sunday and home on Friday meant there was only one thing Kelly couldn't do on Saturday: scuba dive in Puget Sound. To enrich his personal and family life Kelly left Chesapeake in 1999.

Microsoft Corporation
Kelly joined Microsoft Corporation at their headquarters in Redmond, Washington in 1999 primarily as Program Manager for NetShell (netsh.exe); he had responsibility for other activities, too. After completing NetShell Kelly was approached by a recruiter with an opportunity he couldn't refuse.

Cisco Systems, Inc.
Kelly joined Cisco Systems, Inc. as a contractor (leased employee) in the summer of 1999 and proceeded to teach courses around the world. For over a year Kelly taught classes to students in every continent except Antarctica. Offered the opportunity to become a full-time employee, Kelly declined in order to continue his free-lance contracting career.

Independent contractor
In the late summer of 2000 Kelly became a full-time independent contractor working with Advanced Network Information, Inc. (ANI) as a Cisco trainer. ANI has held his certification for all but a short time since then. During this period Kelly completed his first book, Cisco Voice over Frame-Relay, ATM, and IP with Cisco Press.

Winter of 2002 saw Kelly evaluating the possibility of spending more time writing. He negotiated a contract to write books on Cisco-oreinted network design with John Wiley & Son, Inc. through his agent, Margot Maley of Waterside Productions, Inc. He has completed both of the books, although the second was one of several cancelled by Wiley due to market conditions.

For much of 2003 Kelly taught a variety of Cisco-centric courses throughout the world. He also helped to develop new product training material for the rollout of Cisco Unity Express (CUE), a voice-mail product on a network module for Cisco 2600/3600/3700 series routers.

VeriSign
From November 2003 through early April 2004 Kelly was working as a contract employee of a VeriSign, Inc., where he provided network design and project management services for the VeriSign NetDiscovery(tm) service, a CALEA offering.

After leaving VeriSign in early April of 2004 Kelly worked in Athens, Greece for five weeks and spent a sixth week in Lefkosia, Cyprus (Nicosia to non-Cypriots). Tammy joined him for nearly four of those weeks. Upon returning from Greece, Kelly taught in New Zealand and throughout the USA.
